12 NEW T-REX Premium Alcohol Inks: Swatch Review of Cool EARTHtones Pack

Updated: Mar 30, 2021

Hey, there! Today I'm discussing one of my favorite alcohol ink brands. If you've been to my page before or visited my IG account, you know I'm selective about my inks, and I mostly use Ranger Tim Holtz inks and Copic Inks. BUT I'm also a HUGE fan of, T-REX inks.

New to Alcohol Ink?

If you're new to alcohol ink, let me give you a quick run-down. Alcohol inks are transparent, highly-pigmented dyes that can be used on non-porous substrates. Alcohol inks can be used with painting, stamping, fabric dying, resin tinting, jewelry making, and so much more! My preferred method is painting on yupo paper. Legion yupo paper is a synthetic paper made using 100% polypropylene. It is waterproof, stain-resistant, and extremely strong and durable. I'm partial to Legion yupo paper, but other companies on the market make synthetic papers.

An Overview

Okay, now back to T-REX inks. These inks, oh man, the colors are so pure, and when you read up on how Stephen and Tiffani (creators) came up with the names for each color, you can tell they were almost hyper-focused on developing the purest colors.

The Cool EARTHtones pack comes with 12 jumbo bottles, 11 colors and a bottle of metallic. The bottles are 20ml jumbo-sized bottles providing 33% more Japanese dye-based ink than other brands. The colors are so vibrant and pure with cute names to boot!

Let's break down the 12 colors in the T-REX alcohol ink Cool EARTHtones Pack:

Detailed information below is straight from T-REX inks

  1. LEMONGRASS is a vegetal yellow-green that is alive with the vibrance of spring. A botanist's hue, it doesn't get any more earthy than this. Thin it out to find even more flora yellow and green undertones.

  2. KELP FOREST is all you need to paint a woodland scene. At its thickest, it is a dark hunter-green and when it thins out, it is flush with pleasing kelp-like greens and rolling hills of grassy jades.

  3. OLIVE GROVE offers a cool sage tone of an olive leaf and the dusky shades of a weeping willow. Truly an earthy hue, Olive Grove leaves you cast in a peaceful and understated green.

  4. SEAGLASS captures the beauty of holding a piece of sea glass to the sun and seeing it illuminate into a verdant emerald green with subtle earthy blue undertones.

  5. ISLAND TEAL is so perfectly named. Imagine a drone view of a tropical island and deep teal waters that surround it and you have Island Teal in a nutshell. It is a plush blue-green that is subdued yet powerful.

  6. AEGEAN BLUE is the coolest tone we have. It is a swimmingly refreshing blue that makes you feel like you are taking a dip in the azure Meditteranean or flying in blue-as-can-be skies all the while remaining earthy like a denim tone and sophisticated like Paris-blue.

  7. PACIFIC BLUE is an enchanting royal blue with calming muted undertones of navy or midnight blue. It resonates with the depth and mystery of an ocean chasm.

  8. MONSOON storms its way into being our most complex color yet. It is a blustery steel-blue with pronounced undertones of light-blue and gunmetal gray.

  9. VOLCANIC ASH erupts into cool dark charcoal tones that disperses into steel-gray and smoke-blue undertones. It goes on dark but can be thinned for a beautiful transparency.

  10. PURPLE IRIS perfectly captures Van Gogh-esque shades of purple. It is a cool violet tone that skews more blue than plum, with no pink undertones.

  11. WISTERIA is unabashedly a flowery purple that blushes lilac with pink undertones staying vivid yet delicate.

  12. STARLIGHT SILVER will add a glimmering component to your work with its soft silvery metallic finish. Just make sure to shake it up really well first.
